Dear Anon,
1. So far, I do not see any issue relating to the type of floor pattern used e.g. in the kitchen.
2. In my opinion, just about any "normal" design laid tiles. For example from plain pattern to checked are perfectly ok.
3. The more concern is on Yin and Yang. For example, if the house is long and narrow e.g. North-South alignment; and if there are no windows on the East or West, this can be quite dark - particularly in the kitchen.
4. Thus, for such a situation, it is advisable not to use e.g. dark or black tiles.
5. Nowadays, when I review or do audits for my clients, I do get to see units that are of this configuration.
6. For example, this condominium was designed by French designers and maybe, they feel that black gives a touch of `class'.
7. And yes, the entire kitchen floor of this condo is black e.g. black granite (fortunately, the walls are light colours).
8. I personally feel that light colours are much better for condos since there are various units facing different directions. And many units that have little or no light filtering in (especially in the afternoon/evening) is not conducive to Yin and Yang.
For the kitchen, one should not make it too Yin or place of rest. Rather, it should have more Yang or activity.
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
