Dear Bato,
1. In my opinion, it is easier to reply to your question if the placement is more of a hobby.
2. But if it is meant more for Feng Shui, then there are usually more considerations:-
2.1 In General:-
It is still acceptable to place a fish tank along the wall area especially the living room area.
2.2 More specific:-
- it is to avoid the placement of a water position close to the centrepoint of the house
- be careful of placing water positions especially if the breadwinner and spouse are either `weak fire' or `strong water' persons. For example, water can further extinguish a weak fire element person. And water is not favourable to a strong water person.
3. Looking at the position of water in relation to `Nien Yen' as you had mentioned is too general.
